Health, education to be strengthened: A Surya Kumari
Vizianagaram: A Surya Kumari is completing a year as a district collector. On Sunday, she explained her priorities and future plans for neighborhood development in an exclusive interview with The Hans India. Asked about the priority areas for the development of the district, she said at the beginning of my term as collector, I said that the education and health sectors were my priority areas.
For the past year, we have been focusing on these two sectors by implementing several measures. The district performed well in SSC examinations in KGBV schools. The SAKHI program is designed for adolescent girls to raise awareness about health and nutrition issues. Land acquisition for major projects such as Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport and Greenfield No 130 Visakha-Raipur highway are the major achievements of the past year. 600 hectares of land have been acquired over the past year for a highway project.
The collector advised farmers to cultivate diversification from paddy to alternative crops like maize, sesame as third crop and pulses as second crop. She said, “We plan to establish sesame oil extraction factories in Garividi and Nellimarla, where most of the harvesting is practiced. A wholesale vegetable market will be set up at Modavalasa which is on the highway to Denkada mandal.
She later said the district was ranked second in the state for housing. Of a total of 83,295 houses sanctioned, 66,643 are under construction at various stages. “We have also prepared four MIG schemes for middle income groups at GN Valasa, Raghumanda and Gajapathinagaram, Gunnathotavalasa near Bobbili, each having 152 plots. Another 22 acre scheme is also proposed at G Ch Palli near Rajam,” she added.
