Check out the health education classes, support group offered at HCGH
HOWARD COUNTY, MD – Howard County General Hospital will host free health education classes and support groups in March and April.
The Virtual Diabetes Support Group is an ongoing virtual support group for people with prediabetes and type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as caregivers. Participants will receive educational resources and social and emotional support to help them manage their diabetes.
- First Thursday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom
- Third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom

The Living Well with Chronic Illness Toolkit in Spanish (Tomando Control de su Salud: El Kit de herramientas Para vivir bien) is a free six-week self-management program where participants learn skills to help manage chronic illnesses . The Living Well Toolkit will be mailed to participants and will include materials and self-paced activities. Each week, participants will meet with instructors on a 30-minute small group conference call to discuss their self-management progress.

Virtual Living Well with Chronic Disease is a six-week virtual workshop for people living with or at risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, arthritis, lung disease or others long-term health problems. Participants will learn techniques to deal with feelings of frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, develop skills to communicate more effectively about their health, and learn exercises and healthy eating habits to maintain and improve their well-being . Caregivers are welcome.

Cancer self-management will help participants learn to thrive with cancer. Virtual sessions will showcase skills in managing pain and fatigue, nutrition, sleep disorders, communication and emotions, recovering and maintaining flexibility and endurance and choosing treatments and therapies. Participants will share their experiences and identify solutions in a supportive environment. Caregivers are welcome.
